The HRW 1200/6 has been developed especially for demanding in-line production, where heavy-gauge film and larger rolls place different demands on the winding process.
Winding 8 layers of heavy-gauge film directly from an extrusion line places very different demands on a winder than high-speed production of thin film. For one Roll‑o‑Matic customer, the process previously involved manually loading cores, attaching the film with tape and cutting it with a knife.
With the new HRW 1200/6, this demanding winding process can be automated.
From manual winding to an automated process
In a recent customer application for the production of heavy-gauge poly sheeting, tubular film is produced in the extruder, gusseted and folded into a V or C configuration, and then opened with a cold knife. The resulting web enters the HRW as eight layers of film.
Previously, winding was a manual process. An operator had to place a core on a winding shaft, attach the film with tape and cut the film with a knife when the roll was complete.
The HRW 1200/6 automates the winding and roll-change process, reducing the need for manual handling and supporting a more efficient workflow.
Developed for heavy-gauge in-line production
The HRW 1200/6 complements the existing HRW 1200/16, giving film producers two configurations for different production requirements.
While the HRW 1200/16 is designed for high-speed winding of thin and medium-gauge film, the HRW 1200/6 is developed especially for in-line applications where thicker film and larger roll diameters are required.
The new configuration handles film thicknesses up to 8 × 254 μm (8 × 10 mil) and roll diameters up to 292 mm (11.5 in). It can make up to 6 roll changes per minute and wind with or without cores.
In the recent poly-sheeting application, the extrusion line runs at approximately 100 ft/min (30 m/min). Here, the priority is not maximum winding speed, but reliable automatic winding of a very heavy multilayer web.
Automation and safety remain central
The HRW series has long been developed with a focus on user-friendly operation, automation and operator safety. The HRW 1200/6 builds on this concept while extending the range of film thicknesses the series can handle.
For producers moving from manual winding, automating roll changes can reduce the need for operators to handle cores, attach film with tape and cut the film manually. This supports a safer and more efficient daily workflow.
Two models for different production needs
With the HRW 1200/6, Roll‑o‑Matic can now offer an HRW configuration for both high-speed winding and demanding heavy-gauge in-line applications.
The result is a wider range of winding solutions for producers of industrial film, including applications such as agricultural film, construction film and other heavy-gauge poly sheeting.
